Teachers may be unable to write on the Smartboard while in Powerpoint. When you try to open the SmartInk it says that this function is not available.
On the PowerPoint toolbar, click the Drawing Tab and choose the pen colors and eraser from there.
You can use the SmartBoard tools (or your fingers!) to write and erase once you choose on the Drawing Tab.
